The Nokia 5: A Budget Phone
The renowned brand, Nokia is back with the recent launch of their Android-powered smartphones. This time the company has decided to ditch their outdated operating system and decided to come up with popular OS; Android.
HMT Global, who have the rights to sell the brand Nokia launched the Nokia 6, Nokia 5, and Nokia 3 Android smartphones globally. While speaking about a mid-range smartphone, the Nokia 5 comes to mind.
Design & Display: Quiet Good
The Nokia 5 looks premium with the metal housing and the smooth edges, the rear part of the phone showcase a camera with flash and it is nicely located, the Nokia logo can also be seen in the rear and complete the rear design with smoothness.
The display screen size of the phone is 5.2 inches with a pixel density of 282 PPI. The images reproduced by the display is vibrant and the display panel is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass protection.
The smartphones have fewer bezels on the two edges of the display, but the top and a bottom portion of the smartphones is taken up with bezels and covers the front camera and the bottom portion is covered by the home buttom.which is integrated with a fingerprint scanner.
Processor: On the Bright Side
The Nokia 5 is powered by Octa-core 1.4 GHz Cortex-A53 Qualcomm MSM8937 Snapdragon 430 Processor and is the SoC is backed by 2 GB RAM the Snapdragon 430 SoC gives enough power to meet almost all the daily scenarios a user come up to. This dual-SIM smartphone from Nokia is almost like smartphones that do all the job and also being a budget friendly one.

Camera: Not So Bright
A spectacular 13 MP sensor with LED flash has been provided at the rear and an 8 MP secondary sensor has been given at the front. The front optics has phase detection autofocus, dual-LED (dual tone) flash and records videos at 1080p@30fps. The front camera has 8 Mega Pixels and takes decent selfies and is good in almost all lighting conditions. However, the camera specifications are almost similar to that of many smartphones right now on the market.
The camera is not too bright when used in real scenarios, mostly due to the software used, an updated camera software could elevate the performance of the smartphone.
OS and Other Specifications: Should have been better
An Android v7.1.1 (Nougat) operating system runs on the smartphone, the software works smoothly and is almost stock Android, Nokia has not bloated the OS with many preloaded apps and this is nice.
This dual SIM (GSM and GSM) smartphone that accepts Nano-SIM and Nano-SIM. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth, NFC, USB OTG, FM, 3G and 4G (with support for Band 40 used by some LTE networks in India). Sensors on the phone include Compass Magnetometer, Proximity sensor, Accelerometer, Ambient light sensor and Gyroscope. With the release of the Android O, we can hope that Nokia will roll out a new update to the smartphone.The internal memory capacity of the phone is 16 GB which is slightly a disappointment, Nokia could have given a bigger internal storage. However, the storage can be expanded using an external memory up to 256 GB.
Verdict:
The Nokia 5 is a smartphone that showcases multimedia package in a medium budget. The smartphone packs many features that can be live up to with. When the price tag is considered the Nokia 5 will amount to all the requirements of an average person. With the specifications and the price tag, the Nokia 5 will have a direct competition with the Redmi 4 and Honor 6x when the price tag is considered. Honor on the bright side comes with decent dual camera specification and a performance oriented processor, while the Redmi also showcases good specifications that too under pocket-friendly price. Yet, Nokia has a cult fan following in India, and only time will tell wheather that helps the Nokia 5 in scaling high in sales figures.
Price and Availability:
The Nokia 5 is launched with a decent price tag that aligns with the features it present, the smartphone was priced at around 200 EUR. But the smartphone is not yet available in India, and is expected to arrive by August in the country and will have a price tag of around Rs 13,000. The smartphone will be available both online and offline in the market. The smartphone is available in various shades; Tempered Blue, Silver, Copper and Matte Black.
