Review: OPPO R11 & R11 Plus - Price, Specs and More

Oppo is here with their mid-tier smartphones and they also have a red edition to add the squad.

The smartphone market has always shown a positive response to manufacturers who bring high-end specifications with an attractive price tag, and Chinese mobile manufacturers like Redmi and Huawei gained a positive response to this trend and now the smartphone manufacturer Oppo is also in the race to have a share in this growing market.

Now, Oppo has brought down a new range of mid-range smartphones in the market. The Oppo R11 and R11 Plus are their mid-tier range smartphones and they showcase stellar design and features that will provide a fresh arena of smartphones to choose for the prospective buyers.

Design: Metallic with curved edges


Oppo has made the R11 and R11 Plus on metal casing and this metal design can be seen in many smartphones that rule the mid-tier price segment. The smartphone showcase a sleek profile with shiny rear and possess premium looks and here are there Oppo has made tweaks in design and this is visible in a hump given to the camera portion to make the smartphone more attractive.

The smartphone showcases curved edges and looks smooth and it has a fingerprint scanner embedded in the home button with the volume buttons located on the sides of the smartphone.

The Oppo R11 features a bright 5.5-inch AMOLED display with 401 PPI Pixel density with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection. The R11 have a 72.2% screen-to-body ratio which is good, while the R11 Plus has a vivid 6.0-inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen display with 368 PPI pixel density, the 73.0% screen-to-body ratio is better compared to R11 but comparing the pixel density, the R11 have a stand over the R11 Plus.

Camera: Beautiful like before


Oppo has been popular among youngsters with their selfi cameras and with the R11 and R11 Plus they have used the same equation by giving a Dual 20 MP (f/2.6, AF) + 16 MP (f/1.7, PDAF), with phase detection autofocus and LED flash and in the front camera section they provided a 20 Mega Pixel, f/2.0, 1080p front camera for all the wide-angle selfies. The camera possesses Spectra ISP and Hexagon 680 Digital Signal Processing technology for low-light and portrait photography.

Processor: A premium one in the mid-tier range


Both the Oppo R11 and the R11 Plus is powered by Qualcomm MSM8956 Plus Snapdragon 660 Octa-core processor with Adreno 512, Oppo has given a more powerful processor in these smartphones when compared to other smartphones in the same price range.

The Snapdragon 660 is an upgrade over the Qualcomm’s existing 653 model, the 660 processor has an overall improvement in dual-camera hardware specification and possesses enhanced image processing capabilities with a more advanced performance and efficient battery capacity. The R11 Plus has 6 GB of RAM and has an edge over the R11 with 4 GB of RAM, the R11 Plus will out run on performance when compared to the R11 as it have more memory to do all the tasks swiftly and will generate less heat as the 6 GB RAM will give more room for a relaxed computing on R11 Plus as compared to R11.

OS and Internal Storage: Enough for all the gig


The Oppo R11 Plus and R11 runs on Android 7.1.1 Nougat with ColorOS 3.1. ColorOS 3.1 is the latest operating system developed by Oppo for their range of smartphones based on Android providing security, performance and more efficient battery life to devices. And as Android is yet to roll out its latest Android O update, with the high-end specifications provided in the R11 and R11 Plus we are sure that Oppo will provide an update to the latest OS for these smartphones also.

The R11 is a dual SIM smartphone that supports nano-SIM and supports latest 4G connectivity along with latest Bluetooth 4.2, GPS/GLONASS, microUSB, 3.5mm headphone jack and a powerful 3000mAh non-removable battery that has VOOC Flash Charge support.

While the R11 Plus is also Dual SIM smartphone that has Nano-SIM support with dual standby technology, the smartphone has a huge 4000 mAh Non-removable Lithium -Polymer battery which gives more juice to the smartphone over the predecessor R11.

In the internal storage department, the R11 has a 64 GB combined with 4 GB RAM, while the R11 Plus has a 128 GB of internal storage with 6 GB of which is a major advantage. The R11 have microSDsupport up to 256 GB and uses SIM 2 slot. Oppo could have used a dedicated SIM slot in the R11 Plus, as R11 as uses a same SIM 2 slot for memory expansion. The lack of a dedicated MicroSD is a major drawback considering the price at which R11 Plus is priced.

Price and availability:


The Oppo has priced the R11 in China with CNY 2,999, which is approximately Rs. 29,000, and the R11 Plus is priced at CNY 3,699 which is approximately Rs. 35,000. As of now, the smartphone is available only in China, and we are not sure when this smartphone will be launched globally. The Oppo has made the smartphone in different colors, the R11 and the R11 Plus comes in Black, Gold, Rose Gold along with a special red edition to choose from.

Verdict:


Oppo has made tweaks here and there with the R11 Plus over the predecessor R11, and its visible in the internal storage, display, and battery capacity. We can be sure that the R11 Plus will show more performance as it has more RAM than R11. In the design perspective, Oppo has made features that resemble that of the Apple's iPhone, and they also released a red color version of the R11 series called Heat Red to increase sales margin. Summing up all the design and specifications, we can say that Oppo is in for a head to head fight with the existing players in the market and will have a pie of the overall chunk of global sales volume in the coming months.
