LAVA is planning to launch its new Iris X8 at Rs 8,999 in India. As revealed by the company, the smartphone would be available online exclusively on Flipkart with its sale starting at 12 noon from 9th February onwards, in all national retail stores and outlets.
Design
The Lava Iris X8 has a flawless design. Built within a sleek stainless steel metallic rim with a matte finish rear cover that gives the phone a premium look, and also protects the display panel front getting chipped. With a matte-finished plastic rear panel, the phone reminds you of those high end phones with a rich look. What adds to this rich design is the two available colour options-Black and White, which seems to be a symbol of sophistication and class.
Display
The new Lava Iris X8 features a 5-inch IPS 720p display (16.7 Million Colours) with ASAHI Dragontail Glass Protection that protects the phone from scratches and dust, along with three capacitive buttons. This smartphone offers that kind of display that the company claims as "Life-Like Display". It also supports "Smart Wake Up" and Gesture controls to navigate through different apps easily from the lockscreen itself.
Storage
This smartphone is equipped with 2 GB RAM memory and 16 GB internal memory, of which 13.09 GB is set apart for the user, while the rest of it goes into the storage of apps. While many other smartphones in this same league come with 16GB internal memory minus expandable memory features, what sets the Lava Iris X8 apart is that it provides a microSD card slot for an expandable memory facility of upto 32GB. Now that's something more that you can ask for from a smartphone below 10k!
Processor and Performance
This smartphone runs on an Android v4.4.4 KitKat OS (upgradable to Android Lollipop when available) with a Qualcomm ARM Cortex-A7 Octa-core processor clocked at 1.4 GHz, coupled with a 2 GB RAM. This is a blessing for all those multi-tasking techies as you needn't worry about your phone's lock screen's frozen moment anymore. But, however, if at all your phone freezes, this phone doesn't provide a complete hard reset facility due to its 2,500mAh Li-Po non-removable battery, which is a major drawback.
Camera
Lava has generally featured pretty good cameras on its phones and with the Iris X8 too, the manufacturer has maintained that stand. The phone sports an 8 MP auto-focus enabled primary camera with dual flash, powered by a BSI-3 sensor, which ensures that you get stunningly sharp pictures and 1080p Full HD quality video. The 3 MP secondary camera also guarantees crystal clear selfies. It also includes other camera features like QR Code Scanner, Face Detection, Facebook Upload, HDR, Panorama Mode, Face Beauty Mode and Live Photo Mode.
Network and Connectivity
The Lava Iris X8 is a smartphone that supports dual microSIM. The phone won't disappoint you with its connectivity as it comes with 2G and 3G options and also feature Bluetooth 4.0, GPS and AGPS and USB OTG Support.
VERDICT
The Lava Iris X8, seems to be a budget smartphone, considering all those features packed within a steel-rimmed phone. It has quite promising features which makes it distinct from the rest in the same league and is worth the money. However, the only disadvantage seems to be its non-removable battery. But, for Rs 8999, with all these features embedded in this phone, more details about this phone needs to be examined after its launch. So stay tuned for further updates!
