As we all know, smartphones with bigger displays are the trend of the time. That is how the “Phablet” arouse, combining the Phone and the Tablet. Xperia Z Ultra belongs to that category. These phablets will satisfy both the functions of s smartphone and a tablet. It is more handy than a tablet, and more big than the smartphone. For those who love games and videos, the phablets will be the ideal choice.
Sony Xperia Z Ultra is a typical phablet with all its key features. Bigger display, stunning features and a high price tag – that is the common combo of a phablet, which the Ultra obeys. Sony has really took pains to bring down the thickness of the smartphone, and still managed to bag a water proof certification, which is becoming a sure feature in every Xperia smartphone. All these features makes the Z Ultra the thinnest waterproof phablet with Full HD display. To add extra power to the device, there is a quad core processor too.
Design:
On your first look, “gigantic” will be the word coming to your mind. That much the Z Ultra resembles a tablet. We can easily say that the device has more similarity with a tablet than a smartphone in its size. You have to bid goodbye to the one hand usage, how much bigger your palm might be.
Sony has provided options for tilting the on screen key board left or right, making it possible for the users to type easily. The dialler of the phablet will shrink to usable size. But there are high chances to drop the phone while typing/dialing with one hand.
Of course you will not miss to notice that the device is a whole lot thinner than you expected it to be. Xperia Z Ultra is the thinnest smartphone available in the market with Full HD display. It will give you a nice gaming and video experience, with very handy screen. It is so thin that taking it out and watch movie in a beach will not sound odd.
The built and made of the smartphone are good. Though it is thin, the device definitely gives you a premium feel. It is not that heavy to handle. It is not light weight either. With the correct heaviness, the device balances itself in your hand. The company has provided a dock connector on the left side of the device. It lets you place the phone in the landscape mode in a separate magnetic dock, making it easier for you to watch movies/ videos. The LED notification light also looks good. There are three colours available for you, the White, Black and Purple.
There is a micro SD card slot on the right side of the smartphone. The micro SIM card tray rests very next to it. Both the SD card slot and the SIM card slot are covered with a protective flap, as the device is water proof.
Display:
Sony claims the display of the Xperia Z Ultra as the Triluminous display with OptiContrast and X-Reality. In short, what you get is a better Full HD display than that in the Xperia Z, the flagship device from Sony. The resulting vivid colours and crispiness owe much to the Triluminous display technology.
With a 344 ppi pixel density, you will not be able to notice any visible pixels. At 6.44 inches, you will get a very good visual experience from the Xperia Z Ultra, for sure.
The bigger screen allows you to operate it not only with your finger tip and stylus, but also with pen, pencil and nail. But do not expect all the pen to do the magic. The tip of the pen should be larger than 1mm, and it has to be metallic too. That means, the ordinary disposable pens will not do the magic. Of course the increasing of the capacitance touch input sensitivity has resulted in good as the pen/ pencil operation is possible for even cropping the edge of a photo or to press the send button. There is also an improved hand writing recognition feature in the Z Ultra. The display feature are awesome, aren't they?
OS:
The Sony Xperia Z Ultra runs Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. The OS is blended with the SociaLife user interface of the company itself. As the device has a bigger display, there are more rooms for more short cuts. That means, more easy accesses. Sony's Small Apps feature is there in the smartphone, which can be seen on the tapping of the multi tasking key. They appear docked at the bottom of the screen, inclusive of Calculator, Browser, Notes and other small windows of the apps running beneath. They can be customized, re positioned and closed down quickly if you are in need of the full screen operation.
CPU and Performance:
there is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chipset, a Quad core processor to present before you a real faster performance. With a 2.2 GHz Krait 400 CPU, exhibits smooth animations. There is an Adreno 330 graphics processor to add more flavours to the performance.
Storage:
The Sony Xperia Z Ultra comes packed with a sizzling 2 GB of RAM, 16 GB of internal storage, and an external memory, which can be expanded up to 32 GB using a microSD card slot. Out of the16 GB, only 11 GB will be available for the user, as rest of the memory is used for the pre installed apps. There is no need to explain the storage options.
Internet and Connectivity
The bigger the screen is, the smoother will be the browsing experience. When it is blended with a quad core processor and a 2.2 GHz CPU, there is mesmerising attractiveness in the connectivity options of the Z Ultra smartphone. Chrome is the default browser in the Ultra. To watch Adobe Flash content, you will have to download something else along with that.
Almost all of the connectivity options are available in the Z Ultra smartphone. LTE, Wi- Fi, Bluetooth V4.0, DLNA, NFC etc. are available in the Z Ultra smartphone.
Camera
There is an 8 MP rear camera and a 2 MP front camera in Z Ultra. But, there is no LED flash to accompany neither. That is a main drawback of the device as it excel on all other areas. If you are ready to forget about the flash, there are so many good camera features available with the Z Ultra. HDR photos and video, Quick Sweep Panorama etc. are only some of the many features. The Superior Auto Mode of the camera lets you take clear close up shots.
Battery:
There is a 3000 mAh battery beneath the rear cover of the Z Ultra. The battery is enough for a 14 hours talk time on 3G and 22 hours of standby mode. Taking in to consideration the bigger screen size and the powerful CPU, this is a pretty good battery life.
Price and verdict:
If you are ready to handle the big screened smartphone and is ready to compromise a camera flash for the other stunning features, and if you are not running out of your budget, then do not hesitate, Sony's Xperia Z Ultra is just for you. The bigger screen and faster performance is gonna sweep you off your feet. There will not be any better gaming experience in any other smartphones available right now in the market. The device is available right now at 40,999/- rupees. But it will be really worth the money for sure.
