Though Xperia ZL is more or less the same as Xperia Z, it will not be entering to the markets of Europe or Asia. So far the handset is prevailing in the American smartphone market only. Xperia ZL can be called a direct sibling of Xperia Z, with a smaller build and with out water proofing.
Lets get into its features:
Design and Exterior:
In its build and design, Xperia ZL resembles Xperia z, the Big Brother. Xperia ZL has a measurement of 131.6×69.3× 9.8 mm, which is smaller than Xperia Z. With a thickness of 9.8mm, the phone is really handy. It has curved edges and is finished in plastic, which means, it will be having more grip than Xperia Z, which is glass built.
But the slot for microSD and microSIM ports look not that much impressive. Towards the end of the right hand side, locates the shutter button of Xperia ZL. Sony has not included such a button in its Xperia Z. This clearly shows that ZL is really meant for the Americans, who will prefer a special shutter button. This button acts both as camera shutter and also as a quick launcher of camera applications.
Display:
Xperia ZL has a 5-inch screen, powered by what Sony calls "Reality Display" technology. The term is just a marketing tactic. It is to be understood as the screen will be supporting vibrant colours. Of course it is one of the finest displays available in the market. The handset features Full HD support display with 1920×1080 pixels screen resolution. There is also a higher pixel density of 441 ppi. The device has a shatter proof and a scratch-resistant TFT capacitive touchscreen. Sony had introduced a new version of Mobile Bravia Engine 2 for Xperia ZL, which gives even more quality to the images and videos along with rich and vibrant colours.

Xperia ZL is powered by a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor. It clocks at a speed of 1.5 GHz. The 2 GB of RAM of the device enables it to deliver better performance. It also makes the device capable to run multiple applications at a time without any lag. The device also offers better graphics processor which is being powered by Adreno 320 that delivers very stunning and impressive frame speed
.
Operating System:
Sony Xperia ZL is currently running on the platform of 4.1.2 Jelly Bean OS. But it can be upgraded to Android 4.2 Jelly Bean.
Camera:
Like that of the Xperia Z, Xperia ZL also has a heavy pack of camera features. The 13 MP rear camera of Xperia ZL is supported by Exmor RS sensor Sony had also introduced the for the rear camera featuring 13MP in Xperia ZL. The rear camera is capable of capturing Full HD pictures and videos up to 1080 p. The camera also supports burst shot mode. This mode enables you to captures 10 images per second. The camera also has HDR mode also. There are a plenty of camera modes like sweep panorama mode, filter effects etc.
The Xperia ZL also has a front facing camera too. But here, the position of the front facing camera is bit odd. It is on the bottom right corner of the phone, below the display. Sony claims that this set up will be better for a wider view of the person during video calls or self-shots. The handset supports a 2 MP camera which can shoot 1080p videos.
