Review of Nokia Lumia 720

Here is the detailed description of Lumia 720.

Nokia had announced its new Lumia device, Lumia 720 at the on going Mobile World Congress 2013. Unlike its companion phone Lumia 520, Lumia 720 is a mid – ranged smartphone. It has Windows 8 as its Operating System. Of course the Lumia 720 is priced lesser than Lumia 820 and 920. The company had definitely put an effort to make the new Lumia more stylish and palm friendly than the previous ones.

Design and Exterior:

The most striking change in the new Lumia is its outer curves. Unlike its predecessors, Lumia 720 has a more smoother outer curve. According to the company, this is a more “human” design. Definitely, it adds extra charm. It looks great in hand.

According to the claims of the company, Lumia 720 is the first phone with a uni body design and an Sdcard slot. Other non- uni body Lumias have a removable rear side, under which we can see the card slot, as in Lumia 820. But here in Lumia 720, you can see the card slot on the side of the phone, which can be released using a pin. The uni body design gives the phone a special dignity and solidity for sure. You will definitely like it over the non uni body designs.

The Lumia 720 will be arriving in five different colours- Black, White, Cyan, Red and Yellow.

Display:

Just like any other Lumia, 720 also has a Clearblack screen. Do not smoke your head for an explanation of “Clearblack” screen, it is just Nokia's way of saying “a decent screen”!

The 4.3 inched display screen of Lumia 720 is IPS Capacitive Touchscreen with 480×800 pixels display. As the resolution is poorer than the expected level, it gives sharpness to the entire UI. But the resolution will be perfect for apps with low visual optimisation. On the black side, small texts are really unreadable.

CPU and Performance:

The device runs on the platform of a 1 GHz Dual-core processor. It will give you a good performance level. The UI works without any lags.

Operating System:

Nokia Lumia 720

Lumia 720 has Windows 8 Operating System. Of course, being one of the best OS available, Lumia 720 gives you a nice performance. The switching between various apps are so smooth that you will just love it. The apps list includes Nokia Maps, which lets you download entire countries for use offline, and the GPS navigator Nokia Drive. Nokia is calling these facilities under a new name, “HERE”. The reason behind the dropping of the brand name from the application is that Nokia is to start rolling these apps out to non-Nokia Windows phones too.

Camera:

Nokia Lumia 720

Lumia 720 has a pretty good camera of 6.7 MP. It has a high resolution of 2848×2144 pixels. The phone has an LED flash light too. The phone's camera features a large f/1.9 aperture plus Carl Zeiss optics along with a 6.7MP sensor, which is designed it to perform well in low lighting conditions.

You'll also get HD video on the front-facing camera of 1.3 MP for video calling.

Internet and Connectivity:

For its connectivity, Lumia 720 has For its connectivity, Lumia 720 has GPRS of Class B, EDGE Up to 236.8 kbps, 3G HSDPA 850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100, Bluetooth v3.0 with A2DP, microUSB v2.0 and also Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, dual-band.

Storage:

The device has 512 MB RAM. We know its poor comparing to some other smartphones. The device has an internal storage capacity of 8GB, the external memory can be expanded up to 64 GB, using the microSD card.

Battery:

Nokia Lumia 720

The Nokia Lumia 720 uses the same battery as the Lumia 920. as the device has a uni body design, the battery will be non removable. We have a slight disadvantage there. Nokia Lumia 720 supports wireless charging. You just need to keep the phone on the charging plate.

Price:

Though the company didn't clearly announce the price tag of Lumia 720, it is likely to have a price tag of 20,000/- Indian Rupees approximately. It is well below Lumia 920 and 820. for such a price, the phone is really good.

Verdict:

Nokia Lumia 720

If you do not want to put a large hole in your pocket for a branded smartphone, Lumia 720 is a very good option. It is true that the device has no high end features to make you whoop. But it has a decent specs list. Nokia definitely wants these Lumia 720 and 520 to be the choice of the common/ middle class man.

Pros:

Low cost
f/1.9 aperture plus Carl Zeiss Camera
Stylish look
Slim design
Palm friendly

Cons:

Poor screen resolution
RAM could have made better
No 4G capability
