The above image has been circulating the internet as a leaked photo of the Rs.500 Jio LYF phone.
As per a report in the Economic Times, the phone is likely to go on sale from August 15th after it's launch on July 21st. The phone could be priced as low as Rs. 500 and Jio would have to subsidize an amount between Rs. 650 to Rs. 975 per phone to bring down the price to Rs.500. The model's speculated to be Chinese made with 512 MB RAM and 4 GB of storage. It is believed to feature a 2.4-inch screen, 2 MP rear camera, and a VGA front camera. WiFi and GPS facilities are also anticipated in the device.

This new addition to the LYF line-up of phones is seen as a move to attract existing 2G customers to Jio's 4G VoLTE network with the lure of a cheap phone. Though Jio has a strong customer base, subscriber addition has been slowing down since January. With this 4G feature phone, Jio might be looking at not just promoting its data services, but also at attracting more customers for Jio Apps. The company is expected to announce new tariff plans priced below Rs.100.
This phone could turn out to be yet another game changer in the Indian telecom sector from the stable of Mukesh Ambani.
