LinkedIn, the social network site for the working population with over 500 million users, now brings forward an app that is, as the name suggests lighter. This version is aimed at users who access slower networks to continue enjoying the benefits of the site even where data networks are slower and quite expensive.
LinkedIn Lite is said to occupy 1MB of space on a device, thereby reducing data usage to great extent. It showcases LinkedIn basics, like news feed, your profile, your network, messaging, notifications etc. Since the site loads in its basic version and without graphics and other heavy features, the site loads a page under 5 seconds.
LinkedIn Lite was first launched in September last year as a mobile app and made its way to India only today where it has over 42 million users.
LinkedIn however confirms that there may not be a version available for iOS clearly because android has overcome iOS in the smartphone market, clearly when India has more than 91 per cent of its users on android.
LinkedIn came up with a light version in the wake of many other social websites coming up with a similar idea. LinkedIn also confirms that they would not want users to miss out on any updates even when they are not connected to faster networks.
