The pre-booking of the much awaited JioPhone will start today (24th August) at 5.30 P.M. A major chunk of India's cell phone customers are feature phone users and Reliance Jio has launched the JioPhone to absorb these consumers into its fold by offering a feature phone which can run Jio's 4G network. One of the highlights of this phone is that it is effectively free, as the Rs. 1500 paid to receive the phone will be refunded upon completion of 3 years from the date of purchase.

Features


The JioPhone comes with a 2.4- inch QVGA display which has a resolution of 320 x 240 pixels. It runs on KAI OS and is powered by a 1.2GHz Dual Core processor. It has an internal memory of 4GB and the external memory is expandable up to 128 GB. Backed by a 2000 mAh battery, the phone has 512 MB RAM. The primary camera of the phone has 2 MP resolution, while the secondary camera has 0.3 MP resolution.

Special features of the phone include Jio Assistant (a voice activated virtual personal assistant), regional language support, pre-installed Jio Apps, ability to make online payments, and video projection on television using JioMediaCable.

Jio has introduced a special Rs. 153 'Jio Dhan Dhana Dhan' plan exclusively for JioPhone users. Under this scheme, JioPhone users get free voice calls, unlimited data, free 300 SMS, and JioApps for a month.

You may book the device through the MyJio app, jio.com website, or an authorized retailer.

Payment


As mentioned above, the phone is free. A security deposit of Rs. 1500 will be collected, which will be returned after 3 years from the date of purchase. The payment of this amount has to be done in two installments – Rs. 500 has to be paid at the time of booking and the remaining amount at the time of receiving the phone.

Delivery Date


The phone will be made available in September, on a first-come, first-serve basis.
