An Android app to find out the various rates levied under the GST regime has been launched by Finance Minister Arun Jaitely. Although there are a few private apps which perform the same function, this app created by the Central Board of Excise and Customs comes with the legitimacy of being a government offering.
The app named 'GST Rate Finder' can be used to find the Central GST (CGST), State GST(SGST), Union Territory GST (UTGST), and Compensation Cess on a supply, applicable on various goods and services.
Searches can be made on the app by entering the name, chapter heading, HSN code or heading number of the commodity or service.
The app is available for download at Google Play Store and also at cbec-gst.gov.in. Once downloaded, the app will work offline too. Even though the app is only available for Android users now, soon it will be made available on the iOS platform.
This is a much welcome initiative from the Central government as there is a lot of hysteria associated with the adoption of GST. This smartphone app will help prevent a lot of exploitation of hapless consumers in the face of the introduction of the biggest tax-reform India has seen since independence.
