The smartphone giant, Samsung, had already treated the new year with two brand new budget friendly smartphones- Samsung Galaxy Young and Samsung Galaxy Fame. While its sibling comes in different colour variations, Samsung Galaxy Fame will be arriving in a single colour- the brand colour of Samsung, the White. Though both these phones are supposed to be low end phones, Samsung Galaxy Fame is supposed to have a bit higher price than Galaxy Young. The exact price is not yet revealed by the company. They haven't revealed whether Galaxy Fame will make its way to India soon. For all those specifications, we will have to wait some more days it seems. Anyway, with the Mobile World Congress nearing, more and more devices are being revealed by major companies.
Design and Exterior:
The Samsung Galaxy Fame is the mid-range smartphone which is supposed to be the successor of the Samsung's best seller; Samsung Galaxy Ace. This phone has a design which is very similar to the Samsung Galaxy SIII. It is made up of plastic. It has a measuring dimension of 113.2×61.6×11.6 mm. It weighs 120.6g. Unlike its sibling Samsung Galaxy Young, Galaxy Fame will be launching in only one colour- the Pure White.
Display:
The 3.5 inched capacitive TFT Touch screen has the size of 320×480 pixels. It supports 256K colours. It has 165 ppi pixel density with multi touch facility. Galaxy Fame is a bit thinner than Galaxy Young with its 11.6mm thickness. But, it is very difficult to differentiate the two phones as the difference is too narrow to notice, except for the slightly curvier edges on the Fame. Galaxy Fame features Touchwiz UI user interface.
CPU and Performance:
Just like Galaxy Young, Galaxy Fame also features a single cored 1GHz CPU. But the Phone does not have a GPU, which is of course a drawback.
Operating System:
Samsung Galaxy Fame runs with Android Operating System with version v4.1.2, which is also known as the Jelly Bean.
Camera:
Galaxy fame has an upper hand over Galaxy Young, as far as the camera is concerned. Unlike Galaxy Young, which has only primary camera with poor quality, Galaxy Fame has twin camera, that too with a pretty good quality. The primary rear camera of Galaxy Fame has 5MP capacity, with a resolution of 2592х1944 pixels. It is accompanied with an LED flash light. The camera has the features of Auto focus, Geo Tagging, Touch Focus and Face Detection. It has a VGA video capturing capacity at the rate of 25fps. The video has the resolution of 640×480. The secondary front camera of Galaxy Fame has 0.3 mega pixels VGA. The Galaxy Fame will be releasing in both single SIM and dual SIM facilities.
Internet and Connectivity:
For its internet and connectivity, the Galaxy Fame has the features 2G Network with GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 – GT-S6810 and GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 – GT-S6812 (for SIM1 and SIM2). It has a 3G Network of HSDPA 900 / 2100. It supports GPRS, EDGE and Speed with HSDPA, 7.2 Mbps; HSUPA, 5.76 Mbps. For its Wi-Fi, the device has Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Wi-Fi hotspot. The phone has Bluetooth v4.0 with A2DP and NFC (S6810P model only). It also has USB v2.0. The Samsung galaxy Fame will be coming in both single SIM and dual SIM versions. For the Dual SIM phone, both the SIM cards slots will be GSM capable. Both the SIM cards will be 3G compatible receiving up to 7.2 Mbps download speed and 5.76 Mbps upload speed. The phone also has GPS WITH AGPS, GLONASS.
Storage:
The device has 512 MB RAM, internal storage capacity of 4GB and an external memory, which can be expanded up to 64GB using a microSD card.
Battery:
Galaxy Fame will be powered with a Li-Ion 1300 mAh battery. The talk time duration and the Stand by time of the device is not yet explored.
Price:
Though the actual price of Galaxy Fame smartphone is not yet revealed, there are rumours that the device will be carrying a higher price tag than that of Samsung Galaxy Young. Still, being a budget friendly smartphone, the device is not likely to be costlier than 12,000/- Indian rupees.
Verdict:
As far as a branded budget friendly smartphone is concerned, the features promised by Samsung Galaxy Fame is better if not the best. Definitely it has an upper hand over its twin sibling Galaxy Young. If both are to be released simultaneously, the verdict of Samsung Galaxy Young will be quite predictable.
